Isle

A Dynamic Island for the MacBook Pro notch. Invisible at rest; it grows out of the hardware cutout when something is happening, and opens into a full panel when the pointer arrives.

What it shows

Things worth interrupting you for, and nothing else.

Media

Artwork on one side, a live visualiser on the other — the recognisable Island shape, and the only activity allowed to flank the cutout.

Volume and brightness

The island grows a little and emits a glowing bar beneath the notch, replacing the system overlay that sits in the middle of your screen.

Charging

A state, not a notification: while plugged in it holds a steady bar with the charge level and the wattage the battery is actually accepting.

Devices

Battery levels for connected mice, keyboards and earbuds, and one-tap switching between audio outputs.

Design rules

It has to read as the cutout coming to life.

Pure black, no rim, no border, no shadow, no colour tone — anything that reads as a window floating near the notch breaks the effect. Activities grow the island downward onto a strip under the cutout rather than sideways past the camera housing.

The window is allocated once and never resizes; expanding and collapsing are layout changes inside a fixed frame, because animating the window itself makes the chrome and the content interpolate on separate clocks. The expanded panel is sized per tab, so a short tab does not pay the footprint of the tallest one.
